IndyCar — Gossage Knows Promotion

The Texas Motor Speedway announced their plans for the completion of Firestone 600 that rain brought to a premature end earlier in June. The race will be resumed at Lap 72 on August 27th, the first 71 laps having been completed during the second attempt to hold the race on June 11th. Usually, these type of completions are held in front of nearly empty stands, but Eddie Gossage, President of the Texas Motor Speedway, announced an ambitious and comprehensive plan to put as many butts in seats when the race resumes.

“Our loyal and dedicated fans went through a challenging race weekend in June due to the two days of inclement weather and we wanted to show the speedway’s appreciation to them in a variety of ways for the completion of the Firestone 600 on August 27. We want them to come back and enjoy some incredible racing at 220 miles per hour as well as various discounts and perks to enhance the evening. For those who did not attend the Firestone 600 in June, this is a great bargain to see what Indy-car racing is all about and see some of the fastest racing in the world.” — Eddie Gossage, President of the Texas Motor Speedway

If you missed the first round, you can get in to see what Gossage is calling the “Restart Your Engines”. Original Firestone 600 tickets will be honored as well as any tickets purchased for the November NASCAR race at TMS, but all seats will be general admission. Cokes and hot dogs will cost you a buck, and all attendees will receive a vintage IndyCar t-shirt. All of this adds up to Gossage knows how to promote! It’s a move that helps the series by getting fans in the stands to see their racing product and the teams’ sponsors, but it also helps make money for TMS and potentially encourage those who come out for the cheap event in August to come back next June. Gossage has always been a great promoter, and this is simply the most recent example.
