Monaco tire selection: Merc lean on Ultrasoft

Monaco is the crown jewel of the Formula 1 calendar and as such, it’s a nice race to win…especially three times in a row like Nico Rosberg. A notoriously difficult place to pass, Monaco can be a strategy gem as undercutting during pit stops is one of the few ways to pass. Changing strategy is a key.

If Lewis Hamilton has an eye to win in Monaco, and he always does, then his tire strategy won’t be different than his teammate, Rosberg, as the team have loaded up with 10 sets each of the new, un-raced Ultrasoft tire compounds.

Mercedes isn’t alone in their reliance on the Ultrasoft as Red Bull have also chosen 10 sets as well. Renault’s Kevin Magnussen will also contest Monaco with 10 sets of Ultrasoft tires as well.
