The Speedmark

50 Years Of F1

Order a cappuccino from McLaren’s famous paddock Brand Centre and you’ll notice a unique topping. The chocolate is sprinkled in the shape of the team’s iconic swoosh logo.

The butter to accompany your bread at lunchtime is also carved in the same shape. In the 1960s the original McLaren crest depicted a Kiwi bird and was penned by motorsport artist Michael Turner. But that morphed into the ‘Speedy Kiwi’ and was replaced by a Marlboro-influenced chevron in the 1980s. The swoosh speedmark first appeared in 1997 and underwent a re-styling ten years later.
