But LAT’s Steven Tee was watching Senna close on his team-mate Prost at the 1989 Japanese GP and stood his ground. “I thought I’d give it just one more lap,” said Tee. He was right to. On the 47th tour Senna lunged for the lead and the pair collided – effectively bringing the 1989 world championship to a dramatic conclusion. “I was working for Motoring News at the time,” added Tee.
“And it was the news photo of the season.”
